Do you struggle with keeping your figures in proportion?
Do you have a hard time with gesture drawing and creating dynamic poses?
Do you want to learn how to make your figure drawing look realistic and life-like?
If you can relate to any of these questions, then you’ve come to the right place because I’ve got the exact answer you’ve been looking for.
In this short letter, I’m going to reveal to you the hidden reason why you (and so many other artists) struggles with figure drawing and, more importantly, what you can do about it.
But first, let me introduce myself.
My name is Ethan and I’m the founder of MyDrawingTutorials.com, the go-to website for artists who wants to learn how to draw and paint.
And if you are a beginner or intermediate artist whose currently struggling with figure drawing… I want you to know… YOU SHOULDN’T FEEL BAD.
In fact, tons of other people are having the exact same problems as you are.
I get emails from subscribers everyday asking me to help them with their figure drawing and it occurred to me that this is a HUGE sticking point for many people.
So I decided to set out and find out WHY so many artist are having problem with mastering figure drawing and WHAT we can do about it.
I interviewed dozens of figure drawing experts… from art teachers to professional artists… and asked them…
They all had their own take on the question, but there seemed to be a recurring patten among all their answers.
They all seemed to agree that the biggest mistake that artists make when learning how to draw the human figure is to skip over the fundamental skills.
In other words, they never learned a handful to critical skills that are absolutely essential to being successful.
In fact, the experts believed that this one mistake is the very reason why so many beginners are struggling with figure drawing.
Well, we’ll get to that in a minute. But before we do, I want to tell you the story of my co-instructor Michael and his journey in learning figure drawing.
This will help drive the point home and give you a big insight into what YOU need to do to be successful.
See, Michael is a very successful professional artist and teacher now. But when he was first starting out, he was just a regular person like you and me.
He knew that figure drawing is an essential skill to have and to become a great artist, he would have to master it.
So eager to get started, he decided to skip over learning the fundamentals and just start drawing on his own.
He would find reference photos from magazines and comic books and start try to copy them as best he can.
His drawings was very crude at first and he would run into difficulties, but he would simply push through them with more practice.
It took him a long time, but eventually he started to see improvements in his drawings. Soon, his drawings were starting to look pretty good.
Now, Michael was feeling pretty good about himself.
Michael decided to try to draw a figure from his imagination and from real life.
And that’s when something weird happened.
The the skills that he had spent so much time and work to develop all seem to just disappeared.
His figures were all out of proportions.
There was absolutely no life to his drawings. They were completely flat and unrealistic.
It was as if all the hours of practice didn’t even mattered.
Frustrated, Michael tried again. And again. And again.
But every time with the same results.
Until finally, he had to admit the truth… that by skipping over the fundamental skills (the ones that he THOUGHT was unimportant), Michael had hurt himself in the long run.
It’s like building a house. Unless you spent time in the beginning building a solid foundation, you’ll never be able to progress very far.
So Michael had to go back and start all over again. He had to re-learn all the things that he’d skipped over before.
Except this time it was actually even harder than if he was just starting from scratch. That’s because he had to un-learn all the bad habits that he’d picked up.
It took a very long time and a lot of work, but in the end it all paid off.
Now Michael is a better artist than he ever was.
Now the lesson that you can draw from Michael’s story is that to master figure drawing, you need to take a structured approach to learning it.
Many beginners try to learn figure drawing in a very unstructured and unorganized way. Much the same way Michael did at first.
This cause them to struggle and bounce around a lot without much progress. Many often gives up out of frustration.
But what they don’t know, is that there’s actually a very specific way to learn figure drawing. There isa well-defined formula that lays out all the important things you need to learn and the order in which you need to learn them.
I call this the “Figure Drawing Success Formula.”
And after consulting the many figure drawing experts, I’ve concluded that the Formula consisted of these key skills:
Not surprisingly, proportion is one of the most important skill to develop. Until you really understand how to draw human proportion, you drawings will never look right.
It’s the core foundation that everything else we will learn will be based on.
If you have a hard time keeping your figures in proportion, then you are missing this important skill set.
Perspective is basically the art of making 2 dimensional drawings look 3 dimensional.
And it’s extremely important in figure drawing because as soon as you want to draw a figure in any other position than the standard front view, you need to understand how perspective will change that way that figure look. Otherwise, your drawings will never look realistic.
Learning perspective will allow you to draw the figures from many different angles and create dynamic poses.
The manikin is an important step in our figure drawing success formula because it’s the transitional piece between a stick figure and a fully fleshed out human figure.
When drawing the manikin, you simplify the human body into simple 3D shapes.
This will make it much easier for you to practice working with the figure as a three dimensional form.
It also allows you to practice drawing the figure in different poses and stances.
Mastering this step will of course take time and practice. But once you become comfortable with this, it’s an easy transition to apply some anatomical details to the manikin and turning it into a realistic figure.
Knowing proper anatomy when drawing the figure is extremely important and if you ask any expert, they’ll tell you that it is one of the most critical things you have to learn.
But unfortunately, anatomy is often neglected by many artists but once you learn this skill, it will help you make your figure look much more realistic.
The right shading can make or break a drawing so it’s important your you to learn the tricks and techniques of realistic shading. This will help make your drawing look 3 dimensional.
By following this formula and taking a structure approach to learning figure drawing, you’ll be able to avoid the pitfalls that many other artist fall in.
And because each skill sets in the formula builds upon the last one, you’ll be able to progress much more quickly and with less difficulties.
So to help you avoid the mistakes that Michael made when he first started out, Michael and I decided to work together to create a course that would cover each one of the elements of the “Figure Drawing Success Formula” in detail.
We spent months planning, filming, and editing the course. And now it’s finally complete!
(NOTE: You will get instant online access to this course in the online member’s area. No physical product will be sent out.)
This course will be taught entirely by Michael.
It’s divided into 6 different modules. Each module has several videos lessons and covers a different element of the Figure Drawing Success Formula.

It is a complete visual reference of the human body covering every single body parts in every angle possible. It has over 1,000 detail illustrations of all the anatomy parts.
This book has been wide recognized by professional artist and students as one of the best resources for figure drawing ever.
"An excellent resource for nearly any artist. This is much better than anything I’ve seen coming out today. With Perard’s work you can actually get a sense for the whole human figure. I really like the way there are so many poses, angles, and positions illustrated. You can use this material again and again as a reference anytime you need. I highly recommend it."
“…Superb drawings, excellent diagrams – VERY thorough. I give this one very high marks.”
“This book is incredible! I learned SO much from this book. I found that after copying just a few drawings, my understanding of the human body and how to draw it got so much better. I highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with the composition of the body as well as to anyone of a higher skill level as a great book of reference and as great general improvement."
“…This book it still holds the same regard in my eyes now as I had in the first few years of intense Anatomy study. The line work is almost too good to be true…the imaginary compositions in the book convinced me that the artist was indeed a rare and gifted draughtsman. I love this book and recommend it to all discerning figure artists.”
“This book is one of the best books on human anatomy and drawing on the market. I would say that if your wanting to learn how to draw the human body artistically this book would be a wise choice.”
